The Woody Island Tribal Council is currently recruiting for the following positions:

Financial Specialist


Hours: 40 hours/week
Pay Range: $15/hour & up (DOE) (Competitive Benefits)

Environmental Education Coordinator


Hours: 30-40 hours/week
Pay Range: $11/hour & up--DOE
Closing Date: Open until filled
Start Date: March 2008
End Date: September 2008

General Duties
Successful candidate will maintain fund accounting system; process A/P and payroll; prepare financial reports; and ensure compliance with governmental accounting requirements.
Will also respond to requests for information; maintain enrollment files; and serve as contact person for higher education scholarship program.

General Duties
Coordinate the planning and implementation of the environmental education curriculum for Woody Island Tribal Council. Curriculum includes activities which provide opportunities for increased knowledge, appreciation, respect and care for the environment including the following, but not limited to: subsistence fishing, organic gardening, the study of native plant species/habitat, and recycling. This position requires working with youth and elders, contributing to environmental education articles for the tribal newsletter, periodic curriculum review, communications with tribal members and the general public, as well as related cultural, environmental & educational research.

  • Experience with QuickBooks
  • Proficient in MS Computer Environment
  • Attentive to Detail
  • Able manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent grammar & spelling
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must be willing to travel occasionally
  • Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the Native culture

Qualifications & Attributes

  • Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the Native culture;
  • Comfortable communicating with or making presentations to large groups;
  • Experience with Organic Gardening, Subsistence Fishing, & knowledge of Native Plant Species
  • Proficient in MS Computer Environment;
  • Self motivated, organized, creative, and attentive to detail;
  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Must be able to work well independently and with others;
  • Must have a valid AK driver’s license and clean driving record;
  • Must be willing to travel
